Module 3 Social Networking
Overview
This third module looks beyond the use of online social networking as a means of keeping in touch with friends, it shows you how online networking can help you build your brand and your client base and all at minimal cost.
In particular we show you:
• How in recent years the concept of social networking has changed to the point that for many people it has become synonymous with the internet
• The new ‘hot’ sites and how individuals and businesses are using them – and how you can use learn from what others are doing.
• How businesses of all sizes are using social networks as key components of their marketing and CRM strategies; this is not for multinational corporations, small businesses too are using social networks to level the playing field.
• How local community organisations are making use of social networks to build interest groups and how these groups can help you build your client base.
• Collaborative environments (wikis) and how local businesses and community organisations are making use of them to provide feedback and build a sense of community.
• The importance of creating the ‘brand called you’.
• How you can use social networking to tell your own story or deliver your message.
• Important considerations to keep in mind while building your presence
• Simple blogging and how to determine whether blogging should be part of your social networking experience.
This module assumes you have basic computer skills including access to the internet. To make use of social networks you do not need to be an experienced writer or to know the intricacies of Microsoft Office. One of the delights of social networking (and of blogging) is that they are tools that almost anyone can use.
Used in a class environment this module can be delivered in three hours (express) or over six hours (or one day) with tutorials and other learning exercises included. It is a precursor to the following module which deals in depth with the blogging environment.
